SUSTAINABILITY

The Mooch Maker

Who and why?

Did you know that the fashion industry is the third biggest polluter, contributing to water pollution, air pollution and climate change? As individuals, we have the responsibility to keep our land and water clean, and we can do so by opting for sustainable alternatives. One alternative is to buy upcycled products, which are items that are created by transforming other items. Choosing upcycled doesn't mean we can't have things that are beautiful, and I hope my bags can demonstrate that! So I want to thank you for being here and joining me on a journey of creativity and sustainability that will hopefully lead to a healthier planet.

As a marine biologist, I’ve spent the last 2 decades witnessing both the beauty and downfall of marine ecosystems and conducted research on the impacts of climate change on the delicate balance of life in the ocean. More recently, I started sewing bags as a creative outlet and to unite these two passions. By upcycling unwanted denim into bags, I aim to do some good - for the planet and for people. I purchase the denim from second hand shops, combine it with beautiful remnant fabric.

By starting Mooch Denim Upcycled, I aim to highlight the problem of fast fashion, provide an alternative through upcycling, and make bags that you can show off AND feel good about!
